The evening primrose oil is well known as an herbal medicine useful
in the treatment of various disorders like pre-menstrual syndrome,
breast pains, allergies, eczemas, rheumatoid arthritis and many other.
It's so useful due to its composition made of fatty acids like the
gamma linolenic acid which is good for many body functions.
Though it's a useful remedy, especially for women dealing with
strong pre-menstrual symptoms, mood swings and breast pains the
evening primrose oil is not recommended during pregnancy because it
can cause uterine contractions and induce an early labor. So, even if
during pregnancy, you experience breast pains or mood swings, symptoms
the oil usually reduces, it is not recommended to resort to it and try
different remedies.
As stated above the evening primrose oil pregnancy side effects can
be quite harmful both for the baby and the mother, but some studies
have shown that the oil can be useful while trying to get
pregnant. For women whose cervical fluid is thick or dry, preventing
the fertilization, some doctors recommend this herbal treatment that
can help in the production of more cervical fluid. To be fertile the
fluid has to be clear, thin and watery and this is exactly what
evening primrose oil does. This fluid is essential in conceiving a
baby because it helps the sperm to get easily to the egg and fertilize
it. It also recommended drinking a lot of water along with the oil,
because it has an important role too. It is very important to respect
exactly the treatment because the oil should only be taken between the
menstruation and ovulation, because if the egg is fecundated then the
oil can harm it by causing uterine contractions. You may not get
pregnant immediately but you shouldn't give up on the treatment
because it takes time for herbal remedy to build up and really help
your body.
Also, pregnancy related, the oil has another beneficial part: it
helps in inducing labor. While during the pregnancy it's not
recommended, starting with your 34 week you can take small amounts of
evening primrose oil that will slowly build up and help inducing the
labor, when the time is right. Don't worry, it will not actually
induce the labor by itself but it will soften the cervix and prepare
it to open.
